Esta ilustración fue creada originalmente hace cinco años para una convocatoria de ACNUR sobre el desplazamiento forzado de personas migrantes. Aunque no fue seleccionada en ese momento y la pieza original se dañó durante el proceso de barnizado, años después decidí volver a ella mientras preparaba mi portafolio para la FIL 2025. La re-edité digitalmente y redescubrí en ella una fuerza simbólica que seguía vigente.
La obra aborda el desplazamiento desde la infancia, no como representación explícita del trauma, sino como una reflexión sobre la memoria, el desarraigo y la reconstrucción afectiva del hogar. A través de pequeños elementos domésticos convertidos en carga, refugio y posibilidad, la imagen propone una lectura íntima sobre lo que permanece incluso cuando todo cambia. Fue seleccionada mediante curaduría para el Virtual Illustrators Wall 2026 de Bologna Children’s Book Fair, donde además fue destacada como la imagen de portada de México.

This illustration was originally created five years ago for a UNHCR open call focused on the forced displacement of migrants. Although it was not selected at the time and the original piece was damaged during the varnishing process, years later I decided to return to it while preparing my portfolio for FIL 2025. I digitally re-edited the image and rediscovered a symbolic strength in it that still felt deeply relevant.
The piece approaches displacement through childhood, not as an explicit depiction of trauma, but as a reflection on memory, uprootedness, and the emotional reconstruction of home. Through small domestic elements transformed into burden, shelter, and possibility, the image offers an intimate reading of what remains even when everything changes. It was selected through a curatorial process for the Virtual Illustrators Wall 2026 at Bologna Children’s Book Fair, where it was also featured as the cover image representing Mexico.
